Virginia E. Janke

Virginia E. Janke of Portland, Ore., passed away peacefully Oct. 26, 2021 at the age of 94. Virginia was born in York, N.D., to Frank and Lana Whalen and was one of 11 children.
She moved to Portland to work in the shipyards and that is where she met her future husband, Arnold. Virginia enjoyed traveling to the Oregon Coast and to Central Oregon. After her children were raised, she went to work as a cafeteria worker for Portland Public Schools. One of her favorite pastimes was to watch the Portland Trail Blazers on TV.
She is survived by her siblings, Ward Whalen of Vancouver and Etta Miller of Williston, N.D.; children, Nadine and her husband, Wes of Vancouver, Steve and his wife, Jacque of Vancouver Curtis and his wife, Lisa of Vancouver and Joe and his partner, Jeanne of Vancouver; her seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside gathering at 1 p.m., Nov. 10, 2021, at Skyline Memorial gardens,
