Violet Christene (Moore) Nelson was born September 13, 1932 to Irene and Harry Moore in Lansing, Kansas. She moved to the Portland area at the age of 3. Violet graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1950. On July 27, 1957, she married Joseph Nelson, who preceded her in death on September 11, 1993. Violet worked as a secretary for several years before becoming a full time mother and homemaker. On June 27, 2011 Violet lost her battle with lung cancer. She passed away in her home surrounded by family. She is survived by son Jeff Nelson; daughter Julie Nelson; sister Betty Schroeder; 4 grandchildren: Robyn Nelson, Kayla Nelson, Trevor Nelson and Joseph Brooks, and a large extended family. A Funeral gathering will be held at Hustad Funeral Home on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow at St. Johns Christian Church. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
