Lifelong Portland resident Thomas Patrick Maguigan passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at the age of 66. Tom was the oldest of Leo and Helen Maguigan's eight children. Tom and his twin brother Tim were the older of Leo and Helen's two sets of twin boys born one year apart.
Tom was a graduate of Holy Cross School, LaSalle High School and University of Oregon. He attended North Catholic High for three years before that school closed. Tom was elected as Senior Class President at North Catholic and continued in leadership activities at LaSalle. Following college, Tom began his professional career at Standard Insurance.
Tom grew up in an extended and lively Portland network of relatives and family friends. He was an active participant in large family holiday gatherings, Oregon Coast beach trips, CYO sports and Little League. Enthusiastically cheering on the Portland Buckaroos hockey team, Portland Beavers baseball team and North Catholic Royals were highlights of Tom's youth. As a passionate lifelong fan of Oregon Ducks sports, Tom attended legendary Oregon Duck football games. His characteristic traits of keen intellect, inquisitive curiosity and gentle kindness quickly connected him with others. Tom possessed a knowledge of a wide range of trivia that was unmatched. Travel adventures to Europe and the Caribbean were among his cherished memories.
Tom's family has been touched by the recent outpouring of loving remembrances from many of Tom's cousins and longtime friends. Survivors include his siblings, Tim (Rives Kistler), John (Leslie), Jim (Susan), Sue, Annie (Steve Mueller), Mary (Joe Fanelli); 10 nieces and nephews; and many cousins. Tom was predeceased by his brother, Michael Maguigan, and his parents.
In celebration of Tom's life, a Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 5227 N. Bowdoin St., Portland, OR 97203. A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom's name to Holy Cross School, 5202 N. Bowdoin St., Portland, OR 97203. Private interment at Mt.
