Obituary for Ronald E Oten

October 3, 1950 – March 31, 2018

Ronald (Ronnie) Oten passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018.  Ronnie was born October 3, 1950 in Portland, Oregon to parents, George Oten Jr and Lillie Mae Oten (Orange).  Both parents preceded him in death.  Ronnie is survived by his sister, Erma Oten, Salt Lake City, and brothers David, Dean and Calvin Oten, all of Portland, Oregon.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Ronnie joined the U.S. Navy in 1969 serving 4 years aboard the USS Hancock.  After returning to civilian life, he was employed by several companies, including Oregon Steel.  Ronnie was an avid sports fan and car enthusiast. He loved his Corvette and VW bugs.  His interest in art lead him to woodworking, painting and photography.  Ron also learned to play the bass guitar and he enjoyed jazz music.  Later, he became an avid reader of historical African /African American history.  But above all, Ronnie prided himself on dressing well, hats included.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to family friends Gerald Brown, David Harris and Terry Malone for their care and thoughtfulness.

A  memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Hustad Funeral Home, located at 7232 N. Richmond Ave, Portland, OR.  Internment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.  The Oten family wishes to thank everyone for their continued support.
