Ron was born on January 18, 1948 in Milwaukie, Oregon and passed peacefully on March 14, 2017 in Portland. He was the youngest of six children born to, Albert F. and Dorothy Howerton. Ron grew up and lived most of his childhood in Siletz, Oregon. He attended school there and enjoyed playing baseball and football (#54) during high school. He graduated from Siletz High School and went on to enlist in the US Navy, which he was very proud. During his tour of duty he served in the Vietnam War.
After his discharge he remained in California where he met and married his first wife, Gayle, with whom he had two children: Jayson and Amanda. His family settled in Redding, California where he lived the next 32 years. His main source of employment was the lumber industry and in 2009 he retired from Sierra Pacific Industries after 19 years. After retiring, he returned to Oregon and married his wife, Dianna, whom he had known since childhood and had remained best friends through the years.
He is survived by his loving wife Dianna, son Jayson (Lisa), daughter Amanda Parker (Craig), niece Christy Luzader (Travis), granddaughers Ashliy and Brittany Howerton, Abbygayle and Gracie Parker, nephews Kaden, Jack and Owen Luzader. He is also survived by his brothers Albert (Dorothy), Bob (Esther) and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gayle, his parents and siblings: Harry, Lucille Kavanaugh and Dorothy Wallace.
Ron was a hardworking, honorable and proud man who loved his family. He also loved and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, road trips (with his navigator), casinos, his corvette, flowered shirts and a good time with family and friends. He was loved by so many for his warm and generous heart. He was always one to help those in need, one way or another. He will be truly missed and will be in our hearts forever. Love you always.
Private services were held at Willamette National Cemetery.
