It is with heavy hearts and teary eyes that we share the news of the passing of Robert E. Childers.  He passed at home surrounded by family and love.

A St. John's born and raised son of Billy Robert and Anita Childers, he is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jan; son Evan (Lindsay), grandson William, son Connor(Paige), and sister Louisa Keighan (Chuck.)

Bob attended Sitton Grade School K-3, and Assumption 4-8.  He graduated from Roosevelt High School, and studied at PCC until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969.  He received his Basic Training at Ft. Lewis, WA; went Airborne with the 82nd Division, ending his military service in Intelligence stationed in Arizona.

Bob was hired by the Portland Police Bureau in 1978.  During his 25 years with PPB, he was a member of SERT, and received both a Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor.  He continued police service with Port of Portland Police Dept., until fully retiring after 32 years of law enforcement service.

An avid reader from childhood, Bob enjoyed history, especially the Civil War, WWI, WWII, as well as ancient history.  An excellent memory made him a formidable Trivial Pursuit player.  He was very quick witted, with a wonderful sense of humor and a charming personality.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cherished friend and colleague, he will be truly missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to any of Bob's favorite charities would be appreciated by his family:  Parkinson's Resources of Oregon, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Private Inurnment at Willamette National Cemetery.

A memorial mass for Robert will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Holy Cross Catholic Church,  7455 N Hodge Ave, Portland, OR 97203.

Disposition was by cremation. He will be laid to rest privately at WIllamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
