A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in Portland, at Hustad's Chapel for Rachel Briles, who passed away Jan. 5, 2014, at age 92. Rachel "Rae" Briles was born Feb. 20, 1921, in New York. She met her husband, Cecil Briles, in New York while he was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Rae moved to Oregon in 1946. Rae and Cecil owned a lumber mill in Detroit, Ore., where Cecil served as mayor. They moved to Portland in 1959 and resided in the Parkrose district. Rae moved to Beaverton after Cecil's death. Survivors include her son, Tony (Judy); daughter, Rhonda; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
