Obituary

Phillip Dexter Ross made his entrance into the world on October 15th 1961, in Magnolia Arkansas to parents Gracie Mae Evan's and Marvin Ross. He was the 3rd youngest out of 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls. He spent nearly all of his childhood in Magnolia Arkansas. Growing up in such a big family, you can only imagine the chaotic and fun times that was shared  between siblings. From neighborhood fights defending his family, to fighting his own brothers and sisters at times, Phil was always tough but also enjoyed playing sports with his brothers, helping fix cars and build things out of scraps they found around Magnolia. He was very bright as a child and extremely smart in school. He was energetic, loved music, enjoyed fishing, playing sports, and making up his own games with his siblings and friends.

When he was 17 some of his family moved to Portland Oregon before returning home to Magnolia Arkansas, Phil Chose to stay here in portland Oregon where he spent the rest of his lifetime. Not too long after moving to Portland he met the love of his life Jennifer Lockett whom he later married on October 15th of 1989. They had 2 wonderful children together, Nikelia Ross who they welcomed in April of 1984 and Phillip Ross Jr who joined the family in October of 1988. He took pride in naming both his kids, and instilling all the morals and principles a life should value. Phil always said he would never let another man raise his children and took pride in being the best father and example he could be. Not only did Phil and Jennifer love create 2 beautiful children, but in turn that tuned into 8 beautiful grandchildren. It was a Highschool love story that lasted until Jennifer unexpectedly left us on October 3rd of 2024 after spending nearly 45 years of their lives together.

Phil was a great father, husband, uncle, brother, son, nephew, cousin, friend, leader, Musician, coach and mentor around the community and for anyone who knew him. He took pride in the man that he was, his love was strong, his love was tough, his love was genuine, he loved the best he could through his own hurt. Phil always said "Experience is the Best Teacher" He was a great role model to all of those around him especially the kids. Phil Coached sports around the portland community for over a decade giving his knowledge and wisdom of the game. He loved any child as if they were his own. From picking kids up so that they could practice, to paying for kids tuition and travel to tournaments.  Phil would give the shirt off his back to those kids.  It was an honor to be able to coach his son for many years as well as It was also an honor for him to watch his son follow in his coaching footsteps. Phil Also came out of retirement from coaching to help coach his Grandson A'joni Basketball team.

Phil spent his work career in the warehouse field. Before his cancer diagnosis he was head supervisor at a warehouse for many years and had just Retired before receiving the terrible news that was life changing for us all.

Phil had a strong love for music. He helped a lot of kids back in the 90's to early 2000's that had inspired to be artist. He could stay up all day and night making music in his home made studio. His love for music inspired his son love of music as well which made him even prouder to watch his son also follow in those footsteps as well. Til this day Phil keeps a keyboard in his room.

Phil was a Great Cook. One of the food's he mastered cooking was his Famous barbecue and Greens. Also can't forget that Pecan Pie. If Phil and Jennifer was having a get together, everybody was coming for a plate of Phil's barbecue. Phil put his all into everything he did, especially taking care of his family.
