Paul D. Tolman passed away at home on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at age 87. Paul was born on July 11, 1924 in Chesterfield, Idaho to Judson and Velva Tolman. He was raised in the Boise area and graduated from high school there. He came to Portland in 1942 and was married to Nola M. Ball on August 3, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington. Paul served as a cook in the Merchant Marines before being drafted into the Army during World War II, serving in Hawaii. After the war he returned to Portland and has lived here since. He worked for Portland Gas & Coke (now Northwest Natural Gas) and then later as a Maintenance Supervisor for Chevron Asphalt Company until his retirement in 1987. Paul was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in St. Johns. He is survived by his wife, Nola of Portland; Sons: Jimmy of Bend, OR, John of Biggs, CA, Ross of Kingwood, TX, Joel of Portland and Chris of Manteca, CA; Daughters: Paulette Hansen of St. Helens, OR, Kerry Woller of Vancouver, WA, Robin Durant of Portland and Beth Wegner of Midway, UT. He is also survived by his brothers Judson Tolman and Dee Tolman, both of Portland, and sisters Betty Tweed, formerly of Portland and Dixie Shields of Portland. He has 49 Grandchildren; 96 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judson and Velva Tolman; a sister, Grace Tolman and 5 grandchildren. A public visitation was Friday, June 8, 2012 from 3:00 -7:00 PM at Hustad Funeral Home, 7232 N. Richmond Avenue, Portland and a funeral service was held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5620 N. Bowdoin Street, Portland.
