Nancy Kathryn Near passed away on August 13, 2016 at age70. Nancy was born on June 12, 1946 in Portland, Oregon to Gene and Pat McGarry. She was raised and educated in Portland, graduating from Jefferson High School. Nancy was married to Melvern Near on August 7, 1976 in Vancouver, Washington. She had worked for Kaiser Permanente in varying positions since 1976, retiring in 2011 as a mental health specialist. She was also a Union Shop Steward for Kaiser. Nancy was very active in the Little League Community in the St. Johns Neighborhood and was past president of Pier Park Little League.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Melvern; Children: Brent (Heather) Near, Rebecca (Robert) McGarry-Anderson, Ryan (Viviana) Near, Shawna Near, Jason Near and Ning Vongthongthip; Siblings Butch "Gene" (Vicki) McGarry, Cheryl (Larry) McGarry Arndt; Sister in Law: Barb McGarry; Brother in Law: Wayne Strode; Grandchildren: McKenzie, Kailey and Brooklyn Near, Emmalei and Brayden Mathers, Avery Anderson, Rorriana, Rocio, Amina and Viviana Near. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, a large extended family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Pat McGarry; Brothers, Bud and Tom McGarry; Sister, Melissa Strode.

A Memorial Gathering for Nancy will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Hustad Funeral Home Chapel, 7232 N. Richmond Avenue in Portland. Private inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
