IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Molly Ann
Bilyeu
March 16, 1945 – March 23, 2024
Molly Ann Bilyeu was born on March 16, 1945, in Portland, Oregon to Bill and Mary Brobst. For most of her life Molly lived in St. Johns and was the 3rd generation in her family to live on Portsmouth Ave. She was in the first 8th grade graduating class of Astor School, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963. She attended both Portland Community College and Portland State University.
As a child Molly spent her summers going to Camp Namanu on the Sandy River and in Gearhart at the house her father built after World War II. When she was 6 years old Molly saved her mother's life in Gearhart when she went into a diabetic coma, and it was no surprise that Molly grew up to be a medical assistant. She spent her 30 plus year career taking care of patients and teaching other medical assistants to do the same.
Molly met her husband Brian Bilyeu playing pinocle at PSU and they were married in 1965. They renewed their vows in Kuai, Hawaii 35 years later. Molly and Brian had four daughters Becky, Betsy, Amy and Heather, and two granddaughters, Grace and Harper.
Molly served on the PTA, was the secretary/treasurer of the Weekenders motor-cycle club, was active for decades in the International Order of Job's Daughters, Bethel #4, was a Camp Fire leader, a member of Saint David of Wales Episcopal Church for 51 years and there she served on the Alter Guild, Vestry, as a Sunday School teacher, a Lay Eucharistic Minister, and a regular reader in Sunday services. In retirement she became a SMART reader at Astor School, and became extremely active in the local and state chapters of the American Association of Medical Assistants. In short, Molly was an active volunteer throughout her life.
Molly made friends everywhere she went, she kept them throughout her life. Molly and Brian loved to ride motorcycles around the Pacific Northwest up to into British Columbia and down to the Shakespearean Festival in Ashland. Molly was an anglophile who loved High Tea and British authors, bagpipe music and the Portland Scottish Highland Games. Molly was an avid reader, who always had a book on her. She was a fan of Mariners baseball, and PSU Football. She instilled a love of musicals into her children and grandchildren. Molly was a talented and inventive cook who worked full-time and made dinner from scratch for her family every night. She took her daughters berry picking on Sauvie Island and to the Grand Floral Parade every summer.
As a wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend Molly was loyal, open-minded and non-judgmental, accepting, forgiving, sympathetic, fun, wickedly funny, endlessly kind and compassionate. To know her was to love her. She was generous with her time and affection.
On March 23, 2024, Molly died peacefully surrounded by her family and looking forward to being with Brian again. She is survived by her family of four daughters, Becky Bilyeu, Betsy Bilyeu, Amy Welch and Heather Bilyeu-Gbur, granddaughters Grace Poudayel and Harper Welch, son-in-law Michael Welch, daughter-in-law Frankie Wilson, son-in-law Eric Gbur, Godson Christopher Newkirk and her beloved dogs Ginger and Mochi and kitty Earl Grey. Her family is eternally grateful that they were lucky enough to be part of her life.
In lieu of flowers her family requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation at kidney.org
