IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Matthew Steven
Kruggel
July 19, 1957 – February 23, 2022
Matthew Steven Kruggel, 64, of Portland, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 23, 2022. Matt was born on July 19, 1957 in the Philippines to military parents Charles and Trudy Shultes Kruggel, who both preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his sister Christine, and is mourned by his living siblings and their families: Larry Kruggel, Janice Luttrell (Gordon), Charlene Smith (Neil), Larry Kruggel, and Deanna Richardson (Ben).
Matthew is survived by his loving partner of over 30 years, Sharon Northern, and three children: Jeff Kruggel, Trudy Weinerman (Eric), Holly Brown (Jesse); stepdaughter Serena Northern (Brian); as well as two grandchildren: Abbie Davenport and Ronan Brown. He also leaves behind a beloved cat, Banjo Man.
Matt was a graduate of Parkrose High School's class of 1975 where he lettered in running and was a cartoonist on student publications. He worked many jobs starting out in his career, including truck driver and purchasing agent, before settling on his profession of printing. He worked for Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory in downtown Portland for many years, where he ran the Media Center.
If you ever met Matt Kruggel, you knew him very well. He was incredibly outgoing and willing to talk to just about anyone who would listen. Matt was active in the local Prius club and made many connections in that group. He was always eager to share his passion and vast knowledge of cars.
Besides cars, Matt had many other interests and passions. He loved life and everything in it: airplanes, technology, crossword puzzles, World War II history, The Simpsons, concerts, British television, reading, family, cooking, and cats just to name a new. He was always the most energetic, brightest, and funniest person in the room. Matthew will be forever loved, always missed, and never forgotten by his family and countless friends.
A service to celebrate Matt's life will be held at a later date. Additional information will be provided later. Please join us then in sharing your memories of beloved and remarkable Matt. If you wish to make any donations in his name, his favorite charities were Cat Adoption Team and the Oregon Humane Society.
