IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Matthew Brian
Culligan
August 13, 1959 – May 27, 2022
Matthew Culligan passed at his home in Portland, Oregon on May 27, 2022. He was 62 years old.
Matt was born August 13, 1959 in Portland, OR to James A. and Margaret Mary Culligan, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1977. Excelling in track, Matt qualified for the OSAA Track Meet in 1977. After attending Portland State University, Matt began a successful 40-year-career with The Halton Company and continued with Peterson CAT after the Halton acquisition. Eventually, Matt became a consultant for CATERPILLAR Inc., traveling extensively as an expert in spacial storage needs. Matt and Tracy Davis were married in 1985 having three children, Sarah and twin boys, Ian and Colin. Matt loved his children very much. He made a point of attending all of their sporting events despite his hectic work schedule. He always stayed up until the wee hours of Christmas morning building and constructing their gifts, making sure all was ready for the Christmas morning excitement. When the kids grew up and moved out, Ian gave his dad a bottle of whiskey and a Lego set to build during those wee hours of Christmas morning so the tradition would continue. Matt said that was one of the best gifts he ever received. Matt's happy place was the West Coast, specifically Gearhart. Upon nearing the coast in his car, he would roll down the windows, take a deep sniff of coastal air and say "the best medicine in the world"! Another of Matt's passions was history. Any kind of history. He had quite an extensive collection of books and every one of those books was about history. Matt is survived by his children, Sarah, Ian (Bridie) and Colin, a granddaughter, Aoefe, and four siblings, Marianne, Tim (Jonni), Kevin (Merilee) and Terry. A service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, 5202 N. Bowdoin St., Portland, OR 97203.
