Maria Tomasa Victorina Garcia Martinez. Vickie passed away peacefully at her home in Scappose, Oregon on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was surrounded by family members and passed shortly after her family completed praying the Rosary with her.  She was 103 years old.

Maria was born on March 29, 1916 in Talpa, Colorado. She was the second youngest of 13 children born to Catedra and Manuelita (Martinez) Garcia. She was raised knowing hard work, discipline and deep spiritual values. Family and friends called her Mom, Tia, Grandma, Vickie and Amiga. She was always generous. This feisty five-foot-one bundle of energy and joy was a light to family and to those she met. Her long life was reflected in her love of others, her home was home to many over the years and filled with hospitality. Her life was one of continual prayer. The song, "One in Million" would be an apropos description. She retired from Pacific Northwest Bell and loved travel, gardening and her faith along with her very large family.

She married Abel Martinez in 1935. He predeceased her in 1982.

Maria is survived by eight loving children: Anthony, Buddy, Melvin, Cris Waldron, Bernadette Sinner, David, Greg and Roberta Martinez. She had 31 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 28, 2020  at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 51555 SW Old Portland Rd, Scappoose, OR 97056. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
