Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear mother, Kathryn (Kitty) Pemberton Jordan, on June 23, 2024, at the age of 92.  Kitty passed away peacefully in Portland, Oregon with her loving family by her side.  She was born October 15, 1931, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to E.H. (Dick) and Mary Pemberton, moved to Pueblo, Colorado as a child, and graduated from Centennial High School and Pueblo Junior College. After completing her bachelor's degree in education at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Kitty embarked upon her teaching career in Coronado, California where she met her future husband, Lt. (Jg) James S. Jordan.  As a U.S. Navy family, Kitty lived in several California communities as well as Virginia and Maryland, and then moved back to Pueblo with her children.  While in Pueblo, Kitty was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as the church's financial secretary.  Kitty worked for many years in the office of McKinney Concrete Products and greatly enjoyed her involvement with several community organizations including the Pueblo Symphony and the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center.

As her children left home, Kitty relocated to California to be near them and resumed her teaching career.  She later switched from teaching to retail and was a long-time employee of the McCaulou's department store chain in the Bay Area, where she enjoyed living near her daughter Sara and family in Walnut Creek.  Upon her retirement from McCaulou's, Kitty moved to Portland, Oregon, to be close to her other children, Paula and Brian, and their families.  Kitty enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and good friends.

Kitty is survived by daughters Paula Jordan Swinyard and Sara Jordan (Phil) Runco, son Brian (Berdine) Jordan, six loving grandchildren, sister Cynthia Pemberton (Don) Miller, and many adoring nieces and nephews.  Kitty will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, wisdom, and sharp wit.

Donations in memory of Kitty may be made to Save the Children, the Dementia Society of America, a local hospice organization, or a local animal rescue organization.
