Kathleen Jane Reitel (née Martel) passed away peacefully at her home in Portland on February 22, 2022.  She was 39 years old.

Katie was born in Seattle, Washington, to Elizabeth and Gregory Martel. After graduating high school, Katie attended Concordia University in Portland, Oregon, where she would meet her friend and future husband, Matt Reitel (né Reichert). Katie went on to finish her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington before returning to Portland to obtain her Masters in Social Work and Public Health at Portland State University.

In 2013, Katie and Matt gave birth to a son, Theodore (Teddy) Rex Reitel, to whom she has passed on her sense of humor, kindness, and charity. Katie loved reading and traveling and working on social causes to better the Portland community.

Katie is survived by her husband, Matt, and son, Teddy; her mother, Liz; her father, Greg; her brother, Steven; numerous extended family members; and a community of friends, both near and far, all of whom will miss Katie's presence, humor, and laughter.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held for Katie later this spring (date yet to be determined, will be announced via Facebook). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Family Forward Oregon or to your local food pantry.
