Jeffrey Newell Kolpin (known to many as "Animal," "Kope," and "Jeffy,") died at the age of 69 at Providence Portland Medical Center on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 in Portland Oregon.

Jeff was born in Portland Oregon on December 30th, 1955 to the parents of Velma and Kenneth Kolpin in Portland Oregon. He was the youngest of two siblings, Beverly and Kenneth Jr. He attended Astor Elementary School and Benson Tech High School in Portland, staying involved in sports such as weightlifting, baseball, ping pong, and football.

On September 27th 1986 Jeff married Shirley Kolpin (Galow). He worked for 20 years at Wacker Siltronic. He continued to live in North Portland St. John's area for the remainder of his life and was a long established icon of St. Johns. He was an avid lover of playing sports, including mushball, softball, golf, and bowling. During that time he was able to bowl a perfect sanctioned game and also voted Mr. Mushball in the same year of 1993. He also followed baseball, football, and many other major sporting events. Jeff was also very involved in MAD Poker, a poker league in greater Portland and surrounding area, often challenging, playing, and teaching others. Jeff loved to fish, camp, and go crabbing, and did so until he was no longer physically able.

Jeff was well known for his charisma, positive attitude, and kind heart. He had a special ability to have great lasting connections with those around him, whether well established friendships or new acquaintances. Jeff had extensive chosen family that he treasured and loved dearly.

Jeff is survived by his wife Shirley Kolpin, daughter Etta Dieter (Kevin Dieter), son Thomas Kolpin, and grandchildren Tim, TJ, E'llee, Nevaeh, Echo, and Hope.

He was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Brenda Cordway.

The service to honor Jeff and his memory will be held on November 1st, 2025 at 3pm at Hustad Funeral Home. A viewing will be held for immediate family prior to the service and a casual no host reception will be held at The Twilight Room afterward.
