Jay Thomas Daughenbaugh was recovering from a recent heart surgery, and passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of April 5th 2013. Jay was born on December 22, 1952 to Fay "Duffy" and Marjorie "Marje" Daughenbaugh, in Libertyville, Ill. Jay graduated from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona in 1976 with an MBA in International Management. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1977 where he started his career at the Bank of Nova Scotia as a Financial Administrator until 2008. He bought his first home in Northeast Portland a few years later and resided there until his last day. Jay had a short marriage with Patricia Burk and in 1988 she gave birth to his only biological daughter, Jessica Daughenbaugh. He raised Jessica as a single parent and was a father figure to her older half sister LeeAnne Burk. He truly dedicated his life to being a loving, single dad. Jay was an active member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and volunteered many hours of service to St. Vincent De Paul and the Holy Redeemer community. Jay's interest in nature and the outdoors was reflected in his spare time. He loved to golf, visit the hot springs nearby and pursue his passion for grilling. He was a respected chef and enjoyed cooking for anyone who came around. In his final years, Jay worked at New Seasons Arbor Lodge and was surrounded by people who appreciated his humor and unforgettable laugh, his passion for cooking and joy for life. Jay is survived by only daughter Jessica, stepdaughter LeeAnne Burk, older brothers John, Joe, Jeff Daughenbaugh and younger sisters Jane Daughenbaugh and Jeane Daley. Also, his loyal companion Rusty, the family dog. The memorial mass of Jay will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (25 N. Rosa Parks Way, Portland 97211) at 10:00am. A celebration of life will take place at the Village Ballroom after the mass at 700 NE Dekum Avenue, Portland) from 12:00-3:00pm.
