Jason Michael Kotar passed away after a short illness at his home in Portland, Oregon on December 7th, 2022. Jason was born August 3rd, 1980 to Rodney and Jackie Kotar.  Jason was a darling brown haired, brown eyed cyclone that could turn a room upside down in 30 seconds.  He would then turn on his charm and make you forget the chaos he caused.  That charm carried him through the rest of his life, helping him form lifelong friendships with many of the people he crossed paths with.  He loved fishing, hunting, skateboarding, snowboarding, camping, and listening to vinyl with his friends.  He was a masterful ceramic artist, who made beautiful pieces of pottery.  He lit up every room with his twinkling eyes and big smile, he was truly the life of the party.  Jason was so many things, it would be impossible to sum up what he meant to the many people who knew and loved him.  Mostly, he was someone who forged his own path, lived life by his own rules.

Jason grew up in Great Falls, Montana and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1999.  He moved around a bit but eventually landed in Portland, Oregon, which became his home. Jason was a jack of all trades, like his dad, but eventually focused on floor installation.  He was creative and so particular, he was so proud when he completed his apprenticeship and then went on to get his contractors license.  Jason's passion project was his business, Bear Bones Flooring.  He was really beginning to grow his business when his life was unexpectedly cut short.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfather's Lawrence Newbauer, Rudy Kotar, and Lawrence Peterson, his Uncle Joseph Kantola, and his beloved dog Angus. Missing him are his parents, brother Dustin Kotar (Amanda), nephews Michael and Trevor Kotar, and Braden Peterson.  Also missing him are  Grandmother's Carol Newbauer and Rita Peterson, Aunt Myrna Kantola and Aunt Carla Peterson, and many friends. Jason loved Montana and the mountains, he will be returning home.  We love you Jason and we will miss you forever. ❤️

There will be a Celebration of Life in Portland, Oregon at the BOG on Saturday, December 17th from 1pm-3pm.
