IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Kay
Reeder
August 3, 1934 – July 23, 2019
Janice (Jan) Kay Reeder (Weber) passed away on July 23, 2019 at the age of 84. Born August 3, 1934 in
Portland, Oregon to George H. and Adeline E. Weber. Jan grew up in NE Portland attending Gregory
Heights Elementary and Grant High School and began her love of business as a US Bank teller in the
Hollywood district. She earned a BA in economics at Willamette University. While in college she met and
married James (Jim) Reeder. They raised their 4 children on the Sauvie Island, Reeder Family Farm.
Remaining close to her children, she volunteered at the Sauvie Island Grade School, and worked part-time
as a substitute schoolteacher. In the 1970's she earned her Real Estate Broker's License, working for Joe
Wilson, Stan Wiley, Century 21, then opening and running the Stan Wiley office in Scappoose,
Oregon. After retiring from Stan Wiley she managed the Reeder Beach RV Park office and store.
She was proud of her Oregon Pioneer roots with grandparents who traveled West on the Oregon Trail.
Carlton, Oregon is named after her Carl family ancestors who were instrumental in settling the town. She
was fortunate in her youth to travel extensively with her parents to Mexico and Central America. Upon
retirement Jim and Jan bought a second home in Florida, and cruised the world for 10 years, visiting
Europe, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Canada, Hawaii and Alaska. They split their time between
Florida and Oregon until returning home full time in 2017.
Through the years Jan stayed active, participating and volunteering in numerous organizations, from the
Oregon Cattlemen's Association for Women (the Cow Belles), the Al Kader Shriners, the Order of the
Eastern Star, Jobs Daughters, the Grant High School, Pi Beta Phi Sorority and Willamette University Alumni
committees.
Gardening was Jan's passion, and she tended to her hobby seasonally, paying special attention to her
dahlias. In later years, the gardens were kindly preserved for her, by employees and RV Park residents.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, George and Adeline Weber and her son-in-law Loran
Krause. She leaves behind her husband, Jim, of 64 years, and her children, Joanne Reeder
Hughes(Russell), Patricia Reeder(Donn Ylvisaker), Linda Reeder Krause, Robert Reeder, and
grandchildren, Trenton Hughes, Taylor Hughes and Kendall Krause.
