Janet Blanche Rand Lawler died peacefully on May 11th, 2016 in Hillsboro, Oregon at the age of 73.
Janet is survived by her children, Joanna and Jeffery Lawler, both of the Portland metropolitan area.
Janet was born May 10th, 1943 in Portland, Oregon to Evelyn Blanche Kennedy Rand and James Henry Rand. She lived in Oregon her entire life and considered herself a true Oregonian. She married James Patrick Lawler on February 12th, 1963. After moving back to the Portland area from Eugene, she worked as a banker and was eventually promoted to a bank vice-president position - a rarity for women at the time. Later in life, she worked as a knitting instructor and as a notary. She also enjoyed being a mystery shopper for dozens of companies.
Janet is remembered by most people because of her unique ability to easily and quickly form deep personal connections. She enjoyed passing on her experience and advice to younger generations. She was a master knitter and also loved doing needlepoint & other needlework arts. She was well known for never needing to look at what she was making and still having everything come out beautifully. She was passionate about flowers & gardening and enjoyed traveling around Oregon to admire nature's beauty. She generously volunteered her time and money with many non-profit organizations. Her favorite organizations were Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. Later in life, she became a big fan of the Portland sports teams, especially the Portland Thorns and Portland Trailblazers. She had season tickets for the Thorns and also went to see the Blazers in person almost every year.
Janet had wanted her services to be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the National Kidney Foundation in Janet's name. Janet was a recipient of a kidney transplant and was always very thankful for everything the National Kidney Foundation did for her. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Brookdale Sellwood, West Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center for their care of Janet in the last few years of her life.
