Obituary

Irene Christine Heaverin, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Saturday, April 6th, at the age of 91.

Irene was born on July 1, 1932 in Fort Hall, Idaho, to her parents Porfirio & Maria Luisa Hidalgo of Guanajuato, Mexico, who immigrated to the United States in the 1920s to work on the railroad and settled in Idaho. Irene was the third youngest of nine children, though only seven survived to adulthood. Irene graduated from Blackfoot High School and at the age of 20, moved to Portland, Oregon, to join her older sister, Petra.

Irene soon met John Andrew Heaverin, a chemical operator for Pennwalt Corporation. He was immediately struck by her beauty and clever wit. They married on February 25, 1955 and raised five children together.

Irene had a successful career as a bookkeeper for several businesses and institutions in Portland, including Morris P. Kirk & Son's soldering business and Service Bronze & Brass Works. She finished her career at Roosevelt High School, where she worked in the main office, book room, and student store as bookkeeper. She retired in 1995.

Irene is survived by her four daughters, Patricia Brady (Bruce) of Midland, TX, Kathryn Heaverin of Portland, Toni Anderson (Dick) of Portland, and Linda Kalimanis (Kurt) of Bend, her five grandchildren, Ryan, Jalyn, and Jessica Fiske of Texas, and Tyler and Sierra Kalimanis of Oregon, her great grandson, Sterling, and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Charles, and her siblings, Petra, Eulalio, Isabel, Scora, Maxine, and Silverio.

Irene is remembered as a hardworking wife and mother who provided for her family and dedicated her life to helping her children. She attended Holy Cross Parish and found strength in the toughest situations. Her most cherished times were spent with her loved ones to simply talk, enjoy her signature enchiladas together, or watch her favorite show, The Waltons. Irene also loved to travel. She always looked forward to taking road trips with her husband and children to spend time with relatives in San Diego, Boise, and Pocatello, and later, trips with her grandchildren and going on cruises. Another of her favorite spots was the Oregon coast. She loved spending hours playing the slots at the casinos and taking in the peaceful seaside.

The funeral will be a graveside service at 11am on Thursday, April 18th at Skyline Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Irene's life. There will be a gathering afterward at Golden Valley Brewery & Restaurant, 1520 NW Bethany Blvd in Beaverton, from 12-3pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Holy Cross Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Association. Condolences can be sent to www.hustadfuneralhome.com. The family appreciates the care provided by multiple teams over the years - transporters, caregivers, and hospital staff, with special thanks to the dialysis clinic for taking such good care of Irene for several years and to hospice in her final days.
