IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon Lee
Tandy
September 21, 1928 – December 25, 2020
Longtime Portland and St. Johns Resident, Gordon Lee Tandy (Gordy), 92, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Christmas Day 2020 from COVID-19.
Gordon was born on September 21, 1928 to Bessie Golden and Alvie Tandy in Portland, Oregon. Gordon was raised by his mother, Bessie Moody and stepfather William Moody. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1946.
After high school, Gordon enlisted into the United States Army in September of 1946. He was stationed in Korea where he served as a clerk. He was honorably discharged in March of 1948.
On November 19, 1955, Gordon married Janet Marie Miller in Portland, Oregon. Gordon and Janet settled into a home in St. Johns where they raised their four children: daughters, Barbara, Terri, Mary and son, William. They were happily married for 47 years before Janet passed on January 12, 2002. On April 26, 2014, Gordon married the second love of his life Betty Danker at Assumption Village. Sadly, Betty passed away on December 17, 2020 from COVID-19.
Gordon retired in 1993 from Terminal 5 Flour Mills as an accountant after 40 years in the field. After he retired, Gordon found his passion driving a school bus for kids with special needs for Portland Public Schools until his final retirement in 2002. During retirement, Gordon travelled to Yuma, AZ for the winter months and resided in Portland through the summer months. Gordon was very active with his family, especially involved with his children and grandchildren and their many activities. Gordon was called Grandpa by many in their neighborhood and in the St. Johns community.
Gordon is survived by his 4 children, 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and all those who knew and loved him. Services will be held at a later date to be announced because of the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Charities.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3
