GAYLE KAY WRIGHT
December 29, 1953– June 28, 2023
Gayle Kay Wright of Tigard, Oregon, lost her battle against melanoma and passed away at her
home in Tigard on June 28, 2023, at the age of 69.
Gayle was born to Roy and Lois Wright in Salem, Oregon and spent her early years on a farm in
nearby Hopewell. The family moved to Tigard in 1966 where Gayle graduated from Tigard High
School in 1972. In her high school career she stood out in all areas, sports, student
government, theater, receiving many awards, thus being prepared to continue an outstanding
life in her career and friendships.
She attended Portland Community College and graduated with her Associate degree in
Radiologic Technology in 1977. She worked for Good Samaritan Hospital for 35 years,
expanding her knowledge base and expertise to include Computed Tomography (CT) and
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in
Healthcare Administration from Concordia University in 1993 and became an instructor herself
at Portland Community College until her retirement in June. She used her humor, her extensive
knowledge, and her love of her students to instruct many future excellent technicians in the
field.
Gayle had many interests. First, she loved people! She loved all animals (particularly cats and
dogs, and save the turtles and whales). She loved Hawaii, loved scuba diving, a retreat to the
Oregon Coast, gardening, entertaining and game nights. Planning projects such as installing
sprinkler systems (for many friends) and installing outdoor lighting delighted her, as did
watching all sports. For a number of years she played softball. She loved "brain storming" any
time, on anything! She had a wry sense of humor and she had the best laugh which was heard
often!
Gayle's death leaves an empty space in the world where once a kind, loving, and generous
person lived. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Gary Wright. Gayle is
survived by her partner of 26 years Edie "EDBD" Briggs, brother Gregg Wright (Sandy) of
Clackamas, Oregon, sister Gean Ann "Jaynes" Bell (Steven) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, sisterin-
law Judy Wright (Gary) of Hillsboro, and the numerous nieces and nephews who are missing
their Auntie Gayle" today, along with Edie's four daughters and the many grandchildren of Edie
who called her Gramma Gayle.
Gayle chose cremation, and plans are for her ashes to be interred in the Hopewell Cemetery. A
celebration of her life in the Tigard area is being planned for Saturday October 7th, 2:00 p.m. at
the C3 Church, 17979 Stafford Road, Lake Oswego, OR.
In lieu of flowers if you would desire to make a contribution to either Rivergate Community
Church, Portland, or African Road, Gayle's memory would be greatly honored as these are
ministries that stirred her heart.
