With minimal fuss Gary exited this life, freeing himself from the many challenges of early onset Alzheimer's. We are so proud that he left us his way, avoiding a prolonged stay in the final stage of his disease. Diagnosed in 2008 Gary managed himself with dignity and grace and never lost his authentic self. To the very end, we were able to say: He is Still Gary! Born in Seattle to Glendale and Edith Gallaher, Gary grew up as a military child along with his older brother, Rex. His childhood experiences in Germany, Japan and bases in the United States were life shaping. Gary graduated from Western Washington University, and in 1972 married Carole Patterson. He adopted her son Chad and daughter Jenelle soon followed. His banking career took him to Aberdeen, Spokane, Bellevue and Everett WA. The years flew by, full of treasured life happenings. Suddenly he was in his fifties and realized that life was short and he needed to take a leap of faith. In 2001 he married his soul mate, Sandy Tamiesie, and they were able to celebrate thirteen years of an amazing marriage before his passing. Gary is survived by his wife Sandy; daughter Jenelle Huber (Jeff); son Chad (Teresa); grandchildren Payton, Maddox, Riley, Alexandra and Hayley; brother Rex (Barbara) and close in-laws Bill, Suzanne and Carol. And of course, Barney - his beloved dog! Many loving friends will never forget his great and glorious spirit. It is with deep joy we say good-bye to him; he is free and he is happy and most importantly, he is Home. The family would like to issue a HUGE shout-out to the amazing staff at Marquis at Autumn Hills. It's all about the caring and they cared a lot! His service was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Portland Oregon, on 03/07. Donations could be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Oregon Chapter, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite 190, Portland Oregon 97209. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Hustad Funeral Home.
