Edwin James Estes (Eddie) was born on May 2, 1925 in Brockton, Massachusetts to Mary Ellen (Boland) and Edwin Devine Estes, the youngest of four children. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 8, 2015 in Portland, Oregon. Eddie was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Army from 1943-1946 in Service Company 188th Engineer Combat Battalion, where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. After his service Eddie worked at Columbia Hospital, where he met Lila Wall. They were married on April 30, 1948 and moved to St. Johns, where they raised five children and remained throughout their lives. Eddie received Christ as his savior and was an actively-involved member and soloist of the First Baptist Church of St. Johns for 42 years before becoming a member of St. Johns Christian Church. He lived his life to serve the Lord. Eddie worked for many years as a steelworker at Union Carbide in North Portland. He was preceded in death by his wife Lila, siblings Kathleen, Mary and Joe, and son-in-law Alan. He is survived by his children Bruce Estes (Dixie), Deborah Estes-Raedels (Alan), Randall Estes, Nancy Estes-Smith and Linda Estes-Goodell (Val); 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Delores Gaudina and Carol Smith; and many nieces and nephews in the Portland and Brockton areas. Private interment with military honors will take place at Willamette National Cemetery on November 19, 2015.A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Christian Church, 8044 N.
