Obituary

Edna Nora (Koehn) Harvey was born November 19, 1923 in Newberg, OR and passed away on August 28, 2019 at her home of 71 years in her beloved St. Johns.  Her parents were Hubert and Muriel Koehn.

When Edna was in the sixth grade her family moved to Portland.  Her father accepted a job at the Portland Gas and Coke Company which is now known as Northwest Natural Gas.  She finished grade school graduating from James John Elementary and then Roosevelt High school in 1942. In St.Johns, Oregon at the time.

Edna met her future husband, David Page Harvey, Jr in 1939 and they were married on July 22, 1942.  Soon after, David joined the Navy and after Boot Camp she followed him to his first duty station in Rhode Island.  There she worked in an electronics firm.  David was only in Rhode Island for 11 months before he was shipped out overseas, Edna returned to St. Johns. There she worked in the Oregon  Ship Yards driving duce and a half trucks during WW II.  David returned to the states in Dec 1944 and was stationed in Shoemaker, CA.  Their first born son, David P. Harvey III was born there at the Naval Base.  Clarence, Almyra and Donald were all born in Portland.

After Edna's husband was discharged, they returned once again to St. Johns.  David continued in the plumbing trade while she worked at Newberry's in Portland and Cornet in St. Johns.  Six months after Donald was born Edna started babysitting in her home sometimes taking care of 10-12 children a day. She did not quit babysitting until she was in her early 80's.

Edna was a longtime member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church where she was in involved   Circle, Christmas Plays, and the Bazaars.  She was also a member of  YWCA Pro-to Club and  a valued member of the St. Johns Heritage Club which she immensely enjoyed.

Edna is survived by her two sisters, Dorene Fike and Maxene Leben both of Phoenix, AZ and her children David III, his wife Sue, Clarence, his wife Cathy, Donald, his wife Collette and Almyra's husband  Dennis Fuerstenau. Edna's daughter, Almyra proceeded her in death as did her husband David.

She has 8 grandchildren, David IV, Christopher Harvey, Kathreen Gomness, Caleb Harvey, Bridget Peraza, Stephanie Fuerstenau, Daniel Harvey and Nickolas Harvey 15 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at Pioneer United Methodist Church, Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
