Earl W. Waldram January 22, 1917 - December 11, 2011 Earl Waldram died December 11, just shy of his 95th birthday. His extensive family was with him at the end. Earl had lived independently in his north Portland home up until the last week of his life. Born in Ogden, Utah to Edmund and Julia Waldram; they moved to Portland shortly after high school. He was married to Velma Purkapile for 63 years before she died June 2004. Earl was an electrician by trade: he supervised such projects as Kaiser Medical Center, Hood Meadows Ski Resort, the original Forestry Center, Costco. But he is best remembered for his inventiveness, remodeling skills (he was instrumental in helping his 9 children remodel their homes, at least once), community conservation, a mainstay at Holy Cross on construction projects and electrical maintenance, and his incredible wit and love for showmanship. Even at the very end, he could bring his humor to the situation as we were all around his bedside. Earl is survived by his nine children, 28 grandchildren: David (Kathy), children Terese, Tracie, Nicole, Felicity; Carol (Steven)Mitchell, children Stephanie, Geoff; Stephen (Antoniette), children Brian, Kristin; Linda (Paul) Tinker, children Heather, Joshua, Brittany, Danielle; Vickie (Phil) Hastay, children Eryn, Justin; Walt (Kathy), children Lindsay, John; Joseph (Heather), children Catherine, Madeline, Elizabeth, Natalie; Paul (Margaret), children Megan, Jason, Nicholas; Chris (Lisa), children Kayla, Karin, Michael, Daniel, Anna. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the Earl and Velma Holy Cross School Scholarship Fund [Holy Cross School, 5202 N. Bowdoin, Portland, 97203]. There will be a Mass and celebration of Earl's life on Saturday, December 17th, at 11am at Holy Cross Church, 5227 N. Bowdoin.
