Obituary

Betty Tandy, born January 26, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri died in Portland, Oregon on December 17, 2020 from complications of the COVID-19 virus.
Betty lived with her husband; Gordon Tandy (age 92) at the Assumption Village Catholic assisted living facility at 9121 N. Burr Avenue in Portland, Oregon where she had been a resident for the last 9 years.
Betty spent the final years of her life in the service of others and always had a positive attitude and encouraging words for all the lives she touched, and there were many. She spent many years volunteering as a liturgical assistant for Mass at the Assumption Village Chapel, and spent many weeks each year keeping the rose garden at Assumption Village well-trimmed, fed and beautiful for all the residents.
Although Betty was small in stature and frail in her final years, she gave us all much courage and hope and always reminded us of the preciousness of life.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gordon Tandy, and her two children; Sue Darrow and her husband, Dan Darrow of Yacolt, Washington; and Gary Grindley and his wife Susanne of Union, Kentucky. Also her grandsons and great-grandchildren; Brian Flanagan of Camas, Washington and his wife, Katie with their two daughters, Rhoen and Roisin; as well as Brett Flanagan of Amboy, Washington and his wife, Chrissy and their daughters, Autumn and Mekaylah.
At this time, there will be no funeral. We will publicly celebrate her life sometime in 2021. Please, no flowers – if you care to donate in Betty's name, please consider a Catholic charity of your choice. Thank you to Hustad's Funeral Home and Sacred Heart Cemetery in Battle Ground, WA.
