Betty passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2019 at home in Happy Valley, while surrounded by family. She was 84 years old.
Betty was born in Harlem, MT and raised in Kalispell, MT. She moved to Portland in 1951 and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1953. Betty married Donald Smith in 1954. Together they raised six children in St Johns. Don & Betty opened their first store, D&B Used Furniture, in St Johns and SE Portland. Betty retired from Daisy Kingdom in 2006, when the store closed.Betty was an avid sewer and crafter who enjoyed selling crafts at the Expo Center Christmas Bazaar for over 30 years. She joined TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) in 1986, where she traveled all over the US going to conventions with friends for over 30 years. As a long time resident of St Johns Betty was involved in the community through volunteering at many food banks before founding "Betty's Bread Box" at the Abundant Life Church. She enjoyed playing and watching all sports.
Betty is survived by sons: Brian, Rod (Debbie), Dana and daughters: Lori Weller, and Cynde Gorman (Kevin). As well as her 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by husband Donald, son Jeffrey, brothers Ralph & Ray Riddle, and sister Ruth Carsner
A funeral will be held at Abundant Life Church, 3935 N. Lombard St, Portland, Oregon on Monday, January 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family suggests remembrances go to Abundant Life Church. Arrangements entrusted to Hustad Funeral Home.
