Betty Ann Paranto Krause
On Sunday, July 26, 2020, Betty Ann Paranto Krause, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 97. Betty was born May 7, 1923 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Earl and Margaret Paranto. Betty graduated from The Northern State Teacher's College in South Dakota and taught school for a year when she married Oran Krause. Soon after, Betty, Oran, and several other family members moved to Portland, Oregon to work in the shipyards at the beginning of the war. They first lived in Vanport but soon moved to their home on Greeley Ave. where she lived for more than 70 years. Betty and Oran raised three children, Ken, Nancy, and Norma Jean.
Betty was a teacher with the Portland Public School District for many years. After retiring from teaching, she delivered food for Meals on Wheels for many more years. Betty was a long-time member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church in N. Portland where she taught Sunday school and served the church in many other positions. She also enjoyed traveling and trips to the beach with family and friends. Betty was a huge Blazer fan and seldom missed watching a game. She also loved gardening and spent many happy hours in the yard of her home on Greeley Ave., but her greatest love was for her family. She loved family holidays and other family get-togethers.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Oran. She is survived by her children Ken (Kathy) Krause, Nancy (Lou) Schwab, and Norma Jean Krause, as well as four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
