Andrews, Alvin Lawrence 88 Mar. 12, 1927 Dec. 25, 2015 Alvin Lawrence Andrews, 88, of Portland, passed away Dec. 25, 2015, at his home. Al, the son of Ellis and Leona (Van Buskirk) Andrews, was raised in Ontario where he lived until graduating from high school and joining the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II. Following World War II, Al returned to Oregon and attended Eastern Oregon State College and then the University of Oregon until recalled to active service at the onset of the Korean conflict where he served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Boxer. After his military service he completed his studies at the University of Oregon before attending Northwestern School of Law. Al was a member of the Oregon State Bar for more than 50 years and was a partner in the firm of Fitzwater, Fitzwater and Andrews. In the late 1960s, Al began a solo law practice in North Portland where he practiced as a neighborhood attorney until closing his office in early 2000 to become a full-time caregiver for his beloved wife. Al was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Peninsula Kiwanis Club for over 50 years. He was also a member of the U.S.S. Boxer Association and had interest in hunting, hiking, genealogy, stained glass, music and especially his alma mater, the Oregon Ducks. Al was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Darlene (Devine) Andrews. He is survived by his children, Connie Stahly, Kris Wilkinson, Steve Andrews, Dixon Andrews and Tony Andrews; two sisters, Florence Conant and Margaret Diehl; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Betty Doble. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church in North Portland. Al was a longtime supporter of the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for children with special needs. It is requested that any donations be made in Als honor to the Mt.
