Vernetta(Alta) Lanthier May 2, 1925-October 14, 2012 Vernetta(Alta)Lanthier passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimers on October 14, 2012. She was born the 11th child of Edward and Laura(Harbke) Boe in a sod home in Dunn Center, North Dakota. After losing their homestead during the great depression the family moved to Vernonia, Oregon when Vernetta was 13. Vernetta graduated from Vernonia High School and began working for Montgomery Ward. She signed up to join the Waves during World War II where she received an honorable discharge when the war ended shortly after. Vernetta married Kenneth Housley in 1946, moved to Lebanon, Oregon and raised their four children. She worked as a bookkeeper until Kenneth died in a car accident in 1968. She met Jean Lanthier and moved to Ventura, California in 1970. She and Jean were married in 1971 and together owned and operated Super Seal and Stripe for over 25 years. During this time they were active members of the Associated General Contractors and Vernetta, as a WBE, was the only woman member of that organization. After selling the business and retiring, they enjoyed traveling to Europe and across the US and Canada in their camper. They also owned a boat and enjoyed fishing in the ocean. She loved reading, knitting, working, traveling and having her children and grandchildren visit. Vernetta is survived by her 4 children: Corrin(Ron), Kathy,LaRae, Mike(Debbie) and 6 grandchildren (KIm, Carrie, Camise, Ashley, Brittany, and Kenneth), 8 great-grandchildren (Jonathan, Crystal, Jeremy, Jake, Jessie, James, Jessica, and Kiara),and 1 great-great grandchild, Carrianna, and her sister Naomi. She was proceeded in death by Jean, her husband of 40 years. There will be a memorial for Vernetta and Jean on March 24, 2013 in Ventura, California where their remains will be released into the Pacific Ocean at their request so they can be together again.
