Obituary

On October 14, 1959, Aletha Yvette Bonner was born into her family as the seventh, and youngest Bonner Child of Curtis DeWitt & Lonnie Lee Lewis Bonner in Oakland, California. As was the way with all their children, Aletha was immediately and lovingly received by her parents and siblings upon arrival to the family home at 2040 24 th Avenue (AKA "The 2040 Club" affectionately referred to by Aletha during adolescence).

Welcomed most especially by her father Curtis, who after working two full shifts (day & evening), would arrive home, immediately bundle up his newborn child and take her for an evening spin in his car till sunrise. During the ride he shared his hopes & dreams for her, her future in a better world and how much he loved her. He began calling her "Angel" his Divine Gift from God.

As she was the third daughter in the family, her mother Lonnie gave permission to her two elder sisters, Fredia Dianne (Age 15), and Theresa Lynette (Age 10) to name her.  After thoughtful considerations, they proposed "Aletha Yvette Bonner" which was accepted. The meaning of the name Aletha (Dianne's gift) is "verity & truth" and the meaning of the name Yvette (Theresa's gift) is "yew/woods & archer." True to her name, Aletha was a straight shooter of truths who valued honor, love, and patriotism.  Early in her life she was considered by all her siblings as the most intelligently endowed child of the family.

At the age of seven years, Aletha professed a hope in Christ Jesus and her desire to join with the church. Her confession of hope for unity were accepted by the congregation, and shortly afterwards Aletha was baptized by Rev William A. Holly, thereby becoming united in Faith & Spirit with the Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland, California. A few years later, the Bonner Family moved their religious affiliation with Foothill Missionary Baptist Church, and Rev. Holly.

Aletha graduated from Manzanita Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and Oakland High Schools. She completed her course work by obtaining her GED at Laney College in Oakland (where she sang with the Choral Department). She further graduated from Heald Business College in San Francisco where she obtained Certification in Bookkeeping & Accounting. Her professional administrative career spanned over 20 years working at such venues as Kaiser Hospital, Comcast & AC Transit.

On June 10, 2021, at 1:15 PM, at 62 years of age, Aletha was called to the Lord while other family members gathered to herald her Ascension Home.
